Dr. med. Andrea Jungaberle
chief physician and managing director
Dr. Andrea Jungaberle works as chief physician for somatic medicine and managing director at the OVID Clinic Berlin. In the 20 years of her clinical work, she has already gained experience in various areas of medicine: After studying medicine in Heidelberg and completing her doctorate in psychosomatics at the ZI Mannheim, she worked for five years in general and trauma surgery before changing fields and completing specialist training in anesthesia and emergency medicine. Here, she always particularly enjoyed working in environments in which, as a doctor, you can accompany people in important moments: from anesthesia in the delivery room, to the emergency medical service of the Berlin Fire Department, to intensive care and palliative medicine in a total of six hospitals, from regular to maximum care.
She has also been involved in research projects on psychedelic psychotherapy since 2008. From 2021-2024, she was a study physician and therapist in the EPIsoDE study , in which a total of 144 depressed subjects were treated with psilocybin at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim and the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Campus Charitè Mitte in Berlin.
Since February 2021, she has been medical director of the OVID Practice Berlin and since October 2023 she has shared the management and clinical leadership of the OVID Clinic Berlin with Prof. Gerhard Gründer.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in modern behavioral therapy, but is influenced by other schools of thought, including depth psychology. Dr. Jungaberle draws on concepts and ideas from psychotherapeutic thinkers such as Irvin Yalom, Viktor Frankl and Albert Ellis - in other words, existential and humanistic concepts that do not force people into prefabricated forms, but try to do justice to the individual. She tries to see patients as whole people - and to meet them where they are at the moment. With all their experiences, behavioral patterns, feelings and worries. She also uses methods from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and schema therapy, which make it possible to recognize and work on unhelpful patterns and structures.
Through her experience in emergency and intensive care medicine and therapy with psychoactive substances, she is able to deal with very intense emotional processes in a caring and understanding manner. Many of Dr. Jungaberle's patients have already been in therapy elsewhere and bring with them a wide range of issues and personal challenges. Her goal is to untie the knots that hold them in the current situation. In 2016, she co-founded the partner organization MIND Foundation , a non-profit organization to promote psychedelic research and further education, and is, among other things, the author of the book " Yoga, Tea, LSD - Changes in Consciousness in Science and Everyday Life " and a seminar leader on the topic of integrating psychedelic experiences.
