Medical Director and Chief Physician

Prof. Gerhard Gründer is the medical director of the OVID Clinic Berlin and one of the two chief physicians. He is a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy and is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of mental illnesses with medication.


He has written or edited more than 240 publications in international journals and numerous books on psychiatric pharmacotherapy. In recent years he has been working on questions of benefit assessment of drug therapy and the possible long-term consequences of long-term therapy. He is committed to conducting clinical studies that focus on the long-term well-being of patients and their quality of life.

For years, Prof. Gründer has been regularly listed on the Focus doctors' list of "Top Doctors in Germany" in the categories "Depression" and "Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders". He is also the initiator and director of the clinical trial on the efficacy and safety of psilocybin in treatment-resistant depression at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim ( EPIsoDE ), which was completed in March 2024 and the results of which are expected in early summer 2024.
